Meeting of the Board
Neepawa United Church
October 21, 2014
Present: Brian Elgert, Brian Bailey, Donna Newton, Judy Elgert, Ann Nielsen,
Kristin Wood, Ella Jarvis, Eleanor Nicholson, Bev Finlayson and Lyle Byram.
Regrets: Bob Durston, Ruth Hanke, Susan Phillips, Rita Friesen and Maurice Kaye.
Brian Elgert called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Kristin Wood gave the opening Meditation.
Moved by Donna Newton and seconded by Ann Nielsen that the Agenda be
approved as circulated. Carried.
Moved by Ella Jarvis and seconded by Eleanor Nicholson that the Minutes
be approved as circulated. Carried.
Correspondence:
Received a brochure from CCLI on song sheet selection.
Budget Discussion- discussed at end of meeting.
Committee Reports:
Larger Parish – meeting scheduled for October 23rd
Pastoral Care – for September sent out 4 Sympathy: 9 Get Well:
1 Thinking of you and 5 One year anniversary of a death in family.

UCW – Bev Finlayson reported
Three members attended the North Agassiz Rally in Portage.
Served lunch at Ed Friesen’s funeral lunch.
Held a successful Rummage Sale - $1183.00
Fall Supper will be held October 26th.
Fellowship of Least Coin plans are made. Service is changed to
Friday, Novmeber 14th at 2:00 p.m. in our Church.
Ministerial – Kristin Wood
Kristin attended Presbytery in Roland.
Working on Stewardship campaign
Working on Season of Creation
Brian discussed the use of writing thoughts on paper during the service
and this is a change for some people.
Discussed how to evaluate the Stewardship campaign.
Kristin had a Graveside Service
Funeral in Church
Had a meeting with couple for marriage.
Pastoral visits
Kristin planning to set up a time for Bible Study this Fall.
Trustee Report –No report
Worship – Ann Nielsen
Question – our Church service is being broadcast weekly. It was
passed on to Ann that we had agreed to pay NACTV $100/month
for this service and no monies have passed the publishers door to date.
Ann asked for clarification on this and no one on the Board was aware
of this charge. Brian to follow this up...
MOTION #1- Moved by Ann Nielsen and seconded by Ella Jarvis that the Board accept requests for transfer of membership from St. Andrews United in Arden to
Neepawa United of Grace Rogers; Ken Rogers; Eleanor Cochrane; Irene Bateman
and Arlene Bucksovich. Carried.
Communion did not occur October 5th at Country Meadows as our
Clergy was ill.
Kristin’s Covenanting Service on November 2nd – preparations being put
together.
Communion for Advent will be celebrated November 30th as the
first Sunday in Advent.
White Gift Sunday will be December 14th.
Natalie Babcock training for sound and will fill in when Elgerts are away.
Her first Sunday is October 26th.
UCW Brunch Committee are bringing back two brunches – May and September.
Presbytery -
Susan Phillips sent report that she and Kristin attended the Presbytery
meeting held at Roland. Susan reported she enjoyed the worship and
singing. They held discussions on the Competency-Based Education Model
and One order of Ministry. Also the Compensation Model. A workshop
was held on Courage and Renewal.
Kristin’s Covenanting Service was discussed .
Neepawa to do a Pastoral Oversight visit to Mackenzie United in Portage.
Next Presbytery meeting is November 1st in Carman.
Special Reports
Nominating Committee – Set Meeting date at next Board meeting.
Men’s Breakfast – Brian reported that 2 attended men’s breakfast.
Youth Group – Judy reported group is going along good. The group
decorated pumpkins and have sold some. Having a Hallowe’en party
on October 31st.
Sunday School – Judy reported that Kim is working with the children and
they are learning the Lord’s Prayer in Sign language.
Singles – Luncheon was held on October 11th – great food and fellowship
enjoyed by all.
Moved by Donna Newton and seconded by Judy Elgert that all reports be accepted as presented.
New Business:
Brian reported they will prepare the 2nd letter for Stewardship to
go out soon. The Board held a discussion on Stewardship..
A discussion was held on the meeting that was held between
Neepawa Board and Brookdale Board regarding the Budget.
Heather Lee chaired this meeting and discussion on how to
meet the Budget and where to make any cuts in the Budget.
A date of November 20th was set for resolution to this situation.
Brian Bailey gave a Moment of Levity.
Next Meeting set for November 25th at 7:00 p.m.
Kristin gave the closing Prayer.
Brian adjourned the meeting at 9:00 p.m.
