Neepawa United Church

ucw group picture
Women within the United Church have been forming UCW groups since the organization was formally inaugurated on January 1st, 1962 through the amalgamation of the Women's Missionary Society (WMS), the Women's Association (WA), the Evening Auxiliary and the United Church Guild. Over the ensuing 50 years the UCW has upheld the faith and commitment of the women of the past while taking on the challenges of each new decade. The above picture of the Neepawa United Church UCW members was taken on the occasion of the UCW 50th Anniversary Service on November 4, 2012. Some of our ladies have been members ever since 1962!

Purpose
The purpose of the UCW is to unite the women of the congregation for the total mission of the Church. The work of the UCW is supported and strengthened through its activities which provide opportunities for spiritual growth, Christian fellowship, and leadership development.
Activities
The membership is involved in projects such as the “Gently Used” rummage sales in April and October, the Soup Sandwich and Dessert Luncheon which includes a Bake Sale in May, and the Fall Supper in October as well as catering for our funerals. We also join with local church Women of other denominations in the World Day of Prayer and the Fellowship of the Least Coin services.  We remember our shut-ins and bereaved members with “cookie trays” at Christmas time.  Our units rotate the commitment to greeting at church services, presenting monthly programs at Country Meadows Seniors Home and visiting those who need some extra TLC.
We Support
Proceeds from our fundraising efforts are disbursed among local as well as national and international recipients.  Our main priority is the local Neepawa United Church Board, the Sunday School, Youth Group and Choir, plus the local Salvation Army while the national groups include St. Andrews College, Rock Lake Camp (the Youth Camp for our Presbytery), Calling Lakes Centre, the United Church Mission & Service, the Canadian Bible Society, and the Leprosy Mission.
Special Offerings
Each year special Christmas offerings have been disbursed towards organizations such as STAR ambulance, Doctors without Borders, Stephen Lewis Foundation, Rossbrook House and the Canadian Food Grains Bank.
Meetings
This energetic group of women is formed into 5 units meeting monthly and one unit meeting every second month.  There is a general meeting for the executive and anyone interested held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the meeting room of the church.  There are no meetings during July and August.
Please Join Us!
Most of all we enjoy the fellowship that we receive from each other! We welcome new members to share in the important outreach to our community. If you are interested contact any member of the UCW or the Church Office.
